Nell’s NotD: Different Dimension Dupe?

When we had our Nailpolish Party a couple of polishes were sent travelling. In my last post I showed you p2’s go crazy polish, today I have another one to show you.

As we were browsing some nailpolish retailers I came across some polishes that I really liked by the indie brand Different Dimension and as Snowhoney already owned some of those she was kind enough to let them travel to my realms.

One of the polishes I really loved at first sight was It Rubs The Lotion On Its Skin. Weirdest name ever, no? In the bottle there is a black base with orange glitter and fine gold shimmer. It dries textured and matte.

And then something really cool happened. When I was at work the other day I came across one of the new Manhattan polishes and guess what? It looked like a pretty good dupe. My drugstore currently has a 20% off offer on all Manhattan stuff so I went for it and picked up the polish.

In the bottle the polishes do look rather similar. The Manhattan polish seems to have a dark base too and is as well jam packed with orange glitter and finer gold shimmer. However, the Manhattan orange glitter is a little less bright orange than the Different Dimension glitter.

Applied you can actually see a difference, though.

Ringfinger: 4 (!) coats Manhattan 10V, rest: 3 coats Different Dimension It Rubs The Lotion...

The base on the Manhattan polish is a lot sheerer and the polish dries rather glossy, ergo on its own the Manhattan polish is no dupe for the pretty indie.

BUT:

Ringfinger: Manhattan 10V over essence colour&go 144 black is back, rest: Different Dimension It Rubs The Lotion...

If you use the Manhattan as a top coat (and I think from the description on the bottle that is how it is supposed to be used) and you apply it over black it comes quite close to Different Dimension. It may not be a perfect dupe but if you like the polish and you can’t be arsed to go through the faff of ordering online or you’d prefer if it didn’t dry textured and you have Manhattan available near you, you may wanna check out 10V in combo with a black cream..

Even though I already dread removing this sucker, I really love the polish. ‘Black with a twist’ is really up my street and this is no exception.
In all honesty finding a dupe for an indie polish is a bit of a dick move, since those guys deserve all the support they can get but if you can’t afford it/ are not allowed to order online because you are under age, etc. this combo may help you out.

If, however, you CAN afford it and want to purchase directly from Different Dimension you can do that here. Snowhoney really likes them and they have a couple of brilliant polishes on their page, including holos, etc.
